How to play on your phone
Open MimicBox in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android), create a room or enter a friend's code, allow the microphone when asked, and play. The interface is built for phones first: big buttons, one recording window, a waveform you can follow with your thumb.
Each player uses their own phone. At home, put one phone on speaker for the original sound, or use headphones in a call.
Tips for iPhone and Android
- iPhone: switch the silent mode off, otherwise the game sounds are muted. Safari and Chrome both work.
- Android: Chrome is the safest choice. If the microphone permission was refused once, reset it in the site settings.
- Use headphones when playing over a call, so your friends' voices do not leak into your recording.
- A stable connection helps: the room runs live and each take is sent to the other players in real time.
Is there an app?
Not yet. The browser version is the full game, updated regularly, and it works the same on every device. An app may come later; the web version will stay free. Note that MimicBox is not related to the Steam game Mimic Party, which has no mobile version.
You do not need an APK
Searches for a Mimic Party APK come up a lot, and the files behind them are rarely what they claim to be. MimicBox needs no APK and no store install: it is a web page. Open it in Chrome, Safari, Samsung Internet or Firefox, allow the microphone once, and you are playing.
If you want it to feel like an app, add it to your home screen. On Android, the browser menu has "Add to home screen". On iPhone, tap Share then "Add to Home Screen". You get an icon, it opens full screen, and it still updates itself because there is nothing installed to go out of date.
What it costs in data
Very little. Sounds are short clips of a few dozen kilobytes each and they are cached after the first play, so a five round game moves less data than opening one social feed. Your own recordings go to your room only, and they are deleted when the room closes.
Playing with everyone in the same room
Two ways. Either everyone joins the same private room from their own phone, which is the usual setup, or you use one phone and pass it around the table, which works when your friends have no data. Both are free and both are on the room page.
FAQ
Is there a Mimic Party APK?
Not from us, and you do not need one. MimicBox runs in the mobile browser, so there is no file to sideload and nothing to keep updated.
Does it work without wifi?
You need a connection to load the sounds and to talk to your room. Once a sound is cached it replays without downloading again.
Does it work on iPad and tablets?
Yes, the same way as on a phone, in Safari or Chrome.
Can phone and computer players be in the same room?
Yes. The room does not care about the device, only about the code.
